Richmond, Va. (Oct. 31, 2017) – HCA Virginia Hospitals have been recognized in the fall 2017 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from medical errors, infections and other harms.
New Hospital Safety Scores, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S. health care system recently were announced by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog.
Henrico Doctors’, Johnston-Willis, John Randolph Medical Center, Parham Doctors’ and Spotsylvania Regional all received an A ranking, and were among 832 hospitals in the country to earn this honor for their commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the country.
“I commend our hospitals for continuing to deliver outstanding patient care for the communities in which they serve said Ann Latstetter,” vice president of Quality, HCA Capital Division. “This significant distinction by The Leapfrog Group is a reflection of the excellence and commitment to patient safety that they strive to achieve each and every day.”
Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the clinicians, board, management and staff of these HCA Virginia hospitals for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”
