Our senior care program

Chippenham provides both inpatient and outpatient treatments in a senior-friendly care environment. We offer beds that are low to the ground and fall prevention measures, like bed alarms and video monitoring.

Our senior health program includes a variety a services, such as:

  • Bone density screenings (to detect your risk of fractures)
  • Arthritis and joint care
  • Diabetes care
  • Heart care
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Fitness
  • Advance directive assistance

Bone density testing

Individuals 65 years old and older are recommended to have their bone density tested to analyze their risk of breaking or fracturing a bone upon falling. Our diagnostic services at Chippenham offer bone density testing, including dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) or bone densitometry. DEXA allows us to diagnose osteoporosis, which is the reduced density and quality of the bone.

Joint care

Arthritis causes swelling and sometimes pain in the joints, resulting in reduced mobility. Almost 50 percent of patients 65 years old or older have been diagnosed with some form of arthritis, osteoarthritis being one of the most common.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the wearing down of cartilage over time, which can cause severe pain and limit movement. Cartilage acts as a cushion for the bones, but with normal wear and tear, the joints can wear down the cartilage.

Although OA cannot be cured, the orthopedic care center at Chippenham will help reduce your joint pain and inflammation, slow future damage and improve your overall joint function.

Diabetes care

The diagnosis of diabetes in older adults is often missed because symptoms tend to be common and nonspecific. Some symptoms include dizziness, confusion and nocturia.

The diabetes specialists at Chippenham's diabetes center offer individualized treatment plans for seniors with diabetes, taking into account each patient's:

  • Cognitive abilities
  • Life expectancy
  • Other chronic disorders or diseases
  • Medications
  • Medical history
  • Home care situation

Senior heart health

Normal aging can cause your heart and blood vessels to stiffen, which can lead to heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure and heart arrhythmia in later years.

The cardiology department at Chippenham provides the comprehensive heart care and heart screening services seniors need to control and improve their heart condition and overall heart health.
